Hair Transplant
As you consider the possibility of having a hair transplant, you might be worried about the appearance of your hair after the procedure. You could be worried if the transplanted hair will look natural and if you will be able to wear the hair in a longer hairstyle.
The most popular hair transplant method currently being performed is Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). During an FUE hair transplant surgery, the doctor will remove hair grafts on an individual basis from the donor area on your body. As Hair Restoration experts explain, with most hair restoration patients, the donor area for their hair grafts is the back and sides of the scalp because the hair on this area of the body has proven to be resistant to the balding process. There is no need to worry if the surgeon says you do not have enough quality donor hair on the scalp. The surgeon can also use donor hair from other sections of the body such as the beard and chest.
During FUE surgery, the hair grafts are removed individually from the donor section so there will not be a linear scar in the section where the grafts were removed. Thanks to the lack of a linear scar, it will not be obvious to others that a hair transplant was performed.
You will need to be patient after the surgery as it can take anywhere from 12-18 months to see the final results. Once the hair has grown into the scalp after the surgery, it will look and act just like the native hair on the scalp. This also means the transplanted hair will grow to a length where it can be worn long on the scalp.
The length of the hair growth is really up to you. Some people consider long hair to be down to their shoulders while others want hair that is long enough to be worn in a ponytail or to flow down their back. The choice is up to you but the important thing to remember is that the hair should grow long enough to be worn in a longer hairstyle.
Please consult with your doctor before the surgery if you have any concerns about how to wear your hair after FUE surgery. Your hair might be curly enough that it does not naturally grow in a long manner. It might simply grow in a puffy or kinky manner that does not lend itself to easily being worn in a long manner.
